More and more Charleston bars and restaurants are hosting Industry Nights, or weekly events featuring everything from free late-night snacks to discounted menus for food and bev workers. But the emerging industry night scene isn’t just about discounts. It’s a love letter to the hospitality world, explains Tina Schuttenberg, owner and creative director at Beautiful South.
“Industry Night was born from a simple idea: take care of our own,” Schuttenberg says. “Life in hospitality is equal parts magic and mayhem, and weekends are usually off the table. We wanted to create a night where industry folks could finally clock out, grab a seat, and be the ones getting taken care of for a change.”
What Industry Nights Offer for F&B Workers
Every Tuesday, Beautiful South invites anyone working in the food and beverage industry to order from a lineup of sips and snacks all priced between $8–10. Across town, The Grocery has chosen Sunday as the ideal night to host their friends in hospitality.
“Sundays tend to be when a lot of us have the chance to get out, so it felt like the right night to open things up a bit and make it easy for people to come in, sit down, and spend time together,” says Kevin Johnson, chef and owner of The Grocery. “Charleston has a tight-knit hospitality community, and this is just one way to support that.”
The best part? There’s no end to either of these particular offers in sight.
“As our small town grows into something bigger, we hope Industry Night keeps that close-knit feeling alive,” Schuttenberg says. “It’s about those ‘No way, you’re here!” moments—running into old coworkers, familiar faces, and friends you don’t see nearly enough. At the end of the day, we just want it to feel like your favorite kind of night out: easy, welcoming, and full of good people.”
